Avalanche and Back Country Awareness Courses
Rescue MED is a member of the Canadian Avalanche Association.
We are pleased to offer the following Avalanche Skill Training (AST).
Avalanche Skill Training 1 (AST1):
Duration: 16 Hours
Certification: Yes
Cost: Self Propelled: $ 185 Mechanized: $ 225

This 16 hour introductory course is a two course split between one day in class and one day in the field. It is suited to any and all recreational back country travelers. The AST course is designed to encompass the introductory skills that any recreationalists should have before traveling into the back country.
The classroom session will cover these topics:
- Formation and Nature of Avalanches in
Avalanche Terrain
- Avalanches
- Avalanche Terrain
- Factors Affecting Snow Stability
- Winter Back country Travel
- Assessing Avalanche Danger
- Safety Measures and Self Rescue
- Rescue and Transceivers
Avalanche Safety Training is presented in both a mechanized and
non mechanized format for both types of back country users.
